I have been fortunate to know David personally and professionally for quite a few years. He, along with partner Joe Deitch, have displayed a strong commitment to quality. On the personal side, David has a strong commitment to philanthropy. He created the Creighton Farms Invitational with the idea that the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation would be the primary beneficiary. Because of his commitment, we have raised almost $3 million in just four years. That money has made a real impact at several pediatric facilities, including Inova Children’s Hospital in Northern Virginia. As a developer, David obviously has a good head on his shoulders, but he’s also got a big heart to go along with it.
I’ve been a resident and club member at The Abaco Club, a Southworth community, for many years. I was married there, and my children have grown up enjoying the splendid beach and other diversions there. The club is spectacular in many ways, but one of the ways it impresses me most revolves around its commitment to service. David Southworth and his team have a deep understanding of what people are really looking for today. And they deliver it beautifully. I have great respect for David, his company and the way they do things at all their properties. I’m proud to be associated with them.
It takes a few key ingredients to create a great golf destination: the site, the architect, and the right budget are essential, but the ingredient so often misunderstood and under-appreciated is the quality of the developer — their vision, their ability to manage, to inspire, to follow through.
